val saint lambert

The Abbey of Val Saint Lambert was created at the beginning of the 13th century by Cistercian monks at the confluence of the Villencourt stream and the Meuse. They observed the rule of Saint Benoit there until the Revolution, when they were driven out and their property confiscated. The estate then belonged to Jean-François Deneef, last burgomaster of Seraing during the United Kingdom of the Netherlands, until 1825. He installed a mechanical spinning mill there which was not successful. In 1825, Val Saint-Lambert changed owners with the intention of installing a crystal factory there.
